fewer insects in the world?- something not right

i've noticed this before, but there does seem to be fewer bugs. there were fewer fireflies this summer (and last) and there are just not as many on car grilles, not as many moths flying around lights or up to windows with lights on the inside. just not right. i suspect that doesn't bode well for the planet. or maybe just not for us - and fewer of us would probably go about in healing the planet in a big way.
